What kind of miles are on the clock?
An off spec ECT (coolant temp sensor) could be telling the computer the engine is still cold and providing extra fuel when it isn't really needed.
When possible and $$$ permits , usually do best with Motorcraft plugs and wires etc.
They don't always have to be purchased from a dealership many auto stores carry Motorcraft line.

also with my truck if I hold the gas petal down it will start right up

where is the coolant temp sensor located

also could the fuel pressure regular cause this problem?

I hope you are not planning on changing the coolant temp sensor without checking it out. What if that part is good?
The coolant temp sensor is located on the lower intake manifold section in a T fitting just above the thermostat mounting.

Usually a defective fuel pressure regulator will allow extra fuel to get into the system all the time, but Better way is to do the tests with the right equipment.

what else could cause this problem I need help any help would be greatly appriated

There are two other things that could cause this problem and they are the TPS, throttle position sensor and the Idle air control valve. How far down do you have to hold the throttle pedal in order to get it to start?
