1996 F 450 Fuel Sys
Hi All,
This is my first post to the Ford Forum. Purchased 1996 Ford F 450 C & C in Kansas and transported to New Mexico. Previous owner stated that the fuel tank was not connected. Since I have not owned a Ford in over 40 years I figured the truck was worth the effort to fix it. Initial trouble shooting. No power to fuel pump (key on or in START) Tank position switch fell apart as soon as I touched it Pulled the pump for electrical run test .... dead, will not run Pulled inline filter .... nothing but MUD came out of it Checked the fuel tank ..... dirty, contaminated, has water with the fuel Continued electrical troubleshooting to get power to the fuel pump Fuses in the cab and under the hood ..... all good Jumpered the fuel select switch .... no power Have not been able to locate the inertia switch or power source Used aux power to test wiring from Tank Selector to fuel pump using spare electric fuel pump ..... wiring is good. Will be replacing the metal tank and fuel pump .... rust from the water Questions for the Forum Since the fuel filter was contaminated, what other components should be checked? Concerned about fuel rail and injectors. When the inertia Switch is located and depending on it's state, what else is left to check? Where is the power source for the circuit? |
