2001 F150 will not start

Working on friends 2001 F150, vehicle was stolen. Replaced steering column with one from a wrecker, ignition switch was destroyed in original vehicle.
Now when we try starting vehicle, turns over but will not start, fuel, spark are all normal, just won't start.
Changed motor in a 1998 Lincoln once and found that the security system would not allow the vehicle to start, could this be the same problem?
Any and all comments welcomed.

Thanks
Kas

When you turn the key on , what does the security light do?

kas 08-20-2021 11:49 AM

I believe it stays on. Was wondering if the key has a chip that matches up to the computer?

Your wondering is on the money.
The security system is not recognizing the new key and will require some reprogramming by either a certified locksmith or dealership.
A certified locksmith is one that is registered and certified to have access to anti-theft programming info from the manufacturer..
You can either tow the vehicle to one of them or pay for a road service call to correct this.
Suggest you check which is less costly in your area. Wish I could be more helpful, but this is where we are now.

Thanks a lot, that was kinda what I had thought.

Will check into it.

Anyone know if it is possible to jump starter across solonoid and start vehicle even with security light on.
Have to tow vehicle back to the city from the farm beginning to cost more than his vehicle is worth.

Some security systems , if there is any kind of problem where the light stays on, will disable the starter and fuel injection controlled by the vehicle computer..

Suggest you obtain a few estimates from locksmiths that can handle this , dealerships and towihg companies..

Thanks, I guess he is back to spending more money.

Do you know if any of this expense might be covered by his insurance?
