97 f150 4wd shift linkage

Hey everbody, I have a 97 f150, it has a 4.6 liter v8 with a manual 5 speed and a seperate stick for engaging in 4wd, my problem is it is very difficult to engage the 4wd and it is impossibe to engage the 4wd low, I looked under the truck and the linkage is rusted, being a lazy sort is there a way to fix this without replaceing or taking the whole thing apart?
thx for any information.

One of the things you can try is to get a can of good quality penetrating oil from any auto supply store ,( PB Blaster) and soak the linkage . If possible do this for a few days and then try to move the linkage. The stuff is good and usually works.
