Default 98 windstar 3.0

I have a 98 windstar 3.0 that I can't seem to get the new belt on. Every instruction says if you loosen the tensioner, you can get it on. My tensioner does not seem to be spring loaded.
Anyone have any input?

Look down between the alternator and power steering pump; there should be a belt tensioner there that requires a 15mm wrench to move. You should be able to move it with a bit of force, if not there is a possibility it is seized and requires replacement.

Another note, check both the idler and tensioner pulleys, if you spin them and they free spin more than 2 or 3 full turns it is a sign that they also need replacing.

We got the belt on, now it is making a wierd noise. Does that mean I probably need to replace something else?

Can you better describe the noise? Steady squealing, an intermittent squeak, or grinding. Did you check the pulleys for free spin? Were your hands clean when handling the belt or could you have gotten some oil on it?
