New member, 99 Ford Ranger
hi guys,
im new to the forum. I am the owner of a 1999 ford ranger. I have had the truck for 3 years. i am in love with this truck. one of the most durable reliable trucks i have owned. i pamper her more than most vehicles. she gets an oil change every 1,500 miles due to the amount of idling she does. coolant flush every 50k, tranny, diff, and t-case flush every 40k. she sits in a heated garage that sits at a constant 70 degrees. ya, she's spoiled. she has 165k on her and she runs in showroom condition. no leaks, no oil consumption. i have alot of work done to her. full bucket and counsel conversion out of a 98 explorer sport, 2 inch lift, intake and exhaust with a level 2 jet tune on the ecm. short shift kit for the counsel. the list goes on. like i said its my work truck/ dd. so it has all the bells and whistles that i need for my roadside work, i.e. strobes, fog lights everywhere, etc...
but i hope to hear from some true dedicated ford owners. i wanna learn some stuff from some of the guys that have been in the business longer than i have. keep Caroline running in tip top shape.

Problems that are common with the 99 ranger 3.0 includes oil pan gasket failure and the automatic transmission. Mine went out between 100,000 and 117,000 miles. I was told to expect this 2 years earlier by a mechanic I know. And sure enough it happened. When the transmission was replaced, the transmission shop created another problem by turning the front wheels left or right with the engine cut off. This caused a lot of power steering fluid to spew out of the vent hole on the fill cap. So when I drove it home 30 miles I didn't know the power steering pump was low on fluid and it ruined it. I felt the truck vibrating and shaking but I figured the mechanic done something wrong on the transmission. Just something to be aware of. Hopefully these issues were resolved before you purchased your truck.
