PCM Help
 

OK, I bought a 06 Escape XLT (6 cyl. AWD) a few months back to see if Ford had gotten better or worse since my last ones 87' Bronco (Killer!) and 95 F-150 (ran better than Carl Lewis). This past week OBD code P-0351 hit. I checked the coil and wiring, they are good. Gotta be PCM. I don't have 700 bucks for new one, so here are my questions:

Can I have my PCM re-flashed or does it have to be re-manned

What digit in VIN states model so I will know if I find one in a Junk Yard it will be compatible with mine

If I do buy a used one, will it still have to be re-flashed

Is this PCM problem as common as it appears to be from what I've read on the 'Net

Any help from someone KNOWING the answers and not just answering because they think they know would be greatly appreciated.

Whats the build date of your escape?

If its build date is on/before 10/3/05 then theres a service proceedure prior to replacing the PCM.. Here's the TSB in short..

ISSUE:
Some 2005-2006 Escape and Mariner vehicles built on or before 10/3/2005, equipped with a 3.0L engine may exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with two or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for coil on plug (COP) primary circuit faults (P0351 through P0356). This may be due to the COP and powertrain control module (PCM) reacting to radio frequency interference from the spark plugs.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Check for DTC's stored in the PCM.
If codes P0351 through P0356 codes are stored in the PCM continue to Step 2.
If codes are present other than P0351 through P0356, do not continue with this article. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostic.
Replace all six (6) COPs. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01B.
Perform a PCM internal coil driver functionality test by running the Oscilloscope Escape PCM Driver Test (available on Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) version B58 or later).
Using IDS, select:
Toolbox.
Oscilloscope tools.
Escape PCM Driver Test - follow on screen instructions.
NOTE: THE OSCILLOSCOPE TEST TO CHECK PCM INTERNAL COIL DRIVER FUNCTIONALITY MUST BE PERFORMED PRIOR TO REPLACING THE PCM.



If the coil driver functionally test fails, replace the PCM.

Well i have no idea of it.may be some one else can help you out with this.
