7.3 straight pipe

Hi, I am a proud 20 year old who is the owner of a 1997 F250, 7.3 diesel. I love my truck and slowly am upgrading things. I am really wanting to straight pipe it. But I work nights because I am a school student. I don’t want to wake my family up when I come home, but I really want to hear my truck. Is there any solution where I can have it straight piped and than just quickly attach a muffler? I have seen those exhaust switches for under the truck, where you can switch it to the muffled side and than an in muffled side. I don’t want to do that. Any ideas of somthing I could quickly attach on the end of my exhaust pipe just to get me down the road a little? Let me know and send me some links if you can help thx.

Welcome to the site..

It would seem as often as you’d want to make the audible change, a diverter would be more convenient over some sort of slip on setup, more so if you had to slide under the truck each time.

Many years ago we used to run ‘snuffs’ on our straight piped motorcycles.
On the outside of the exhaust pipe was a simple ‘click locking’ knob that when turned by hand rotated a ‘holed’ disk on the pipes interior that blocked most of pipes ‘ID’ and restricted flow through the disks hole and in turn supplied a bit of back pressure interrupting sound output.

They made a huge difference audibly, in fact out on the road we would rumble the hood, and seeing an officer heading our way, a simple reach behind and twist, lite throttle, would keep us from a ticket. Could make up/fab a spring loaded setup, that rotates with a wrench or even a lever.
Or I guess you could have some slip on muff, pin held in place..

The other thing to consider when piping,, is the exhaust drone created 'in cab' can be an issue for some...
