got my licsence the summer before my 17th birthday, been driving pick-up,grain truck, cars for at 3.5 years before that
|
15..
Had a car parked down the street from where we lived. Been break'n the law ever since ;) |
At 14 but not illegally. I was crazy about driving and I always ask my elder brother to tell me how to drive I wanna learn it. Then I am greatly thankful to him that he teach me in driving....

I was about seven and I'd wait for dad to come around the corner in his dress blues coming back from base. He'd stop and put me in his lap and I'd steer the 1958 'Thundering Turd' two streets away and up into the carport. I'd steer~he'd work the pedals.
My aunt bought me driving lessons before it was mandatory to take Driver's Ed in high school. So I actually had my license before Driver's Ed. I guess I like cars. skip. |
Same here,
My Mom would put me on her lap and with no hands on the wheel, or her foot on the gas, and the car would start to move. Once up to speed it would shift,, I thought it was magic,, actually still do ;) Figured out the brake part, but the car moving all by itself was just baffling.... |
I was seventeen when I got my DL but I leaned how drive a stick in an old 51 crappy chevy truck since I could reach the peddles of coarse the damn thing didn't run when I did it. I had a wild imagination back then! Too bad I don't now 'cause I grew up
|
My brother had a 56 Chevy Coupe he rebuilt/built the engine for from a 56 Wagon donor he had.. He was gonna give it to me (without an engine) but the folks weren't have'n it leaving a wreck out front of the house for a few years. We did use it for some time as sorta a club house, and the neighbor had a running 53 Cadillac on their side yard (fenced in though ;( that we used to hang out in as young teens.. Was some good times!!!

Dad's buddy made a Mercury 'Lead Sled' [you have to remember these guys went through WWII and there wern't nothing they could not do. Unlike the whimps today] and put a hot Buick engine in the Merc...later this guy pushed over the old 312-Y-block on a stand ready to run, sans exhaust, and I'd start it up and play with it.
So cool. skip. |
