I agree completely - if you know how to drive stick you can save gas. But you can also ruin your knees. I call it clutch foot. It's dependent on how tough your clutch pedal is to push. Plus with an automatic you never miss a gear or hit reverse by accident (if you have disabled the lockout). Plus auto. trannies also last longer on average. Manual is worn faster due to driver error most times. But manual is easier to rearrange gear sets and diagnose troubles. All in all though - I need my knees more. Save the stick trans. for your weekend racer.

Old Ford C-4 automatic trannys are a nice option to fix. They even sell high performance sun gears for them now to handle high horsepower. Besides - I've driven enough stick shifts to be able to tell you how many times missing a gear almost got me killed. They're alright if they have an OD gear (as far as gas mileage) - but lugging your engine too much just causes unneeded motor troubles so why bother? No human can shift gears every day for years and not get sick of it. So I'd yes yes to stick for an occasional ride but for an everyday car the automatic will always hit the gears right to save gas in the long run. And let's face it - if you have stick - you're going to over-rev for fun once in a while - right?

Besides all that - why would you sell a Ford for a Junky Chevy? To be nice - here's what you do with it - Take a look under the dash and make sure there's a backstop for the brake pedal. If not - get out your drill and make and bolt one in so you never have to deal with your brake pedal falling totally off the rod to the master cylinder and dropping your pedal flat to the floor (AKA - No brakes). Besides I think the Ranchero (around since the early 60's) had a lot cooler body style (especially if it had the factory hood scoop).

Manual's what i would choose. Its comfortable and its much better with the gas issues and i always find manual to be fun while driving.

I chose manual, but would all come down to certain things. My mustang is manual. Muscle and sports cars should be manual to me. My truck is auto. It is nice to have an auto around if just in case something happens that would prevent me from driving a manual. Broken bones would be one.

Luckily I don't have to deal with much traffic at this time. I drive the opposite way, but if traffic is always stop and go, I would get an auto for commuting.

I love a manual for a sports car or an old muscle car,, maybe even a 4x4,,, but when it comes to my daily driver im cool with just having the radio on and crusein and not being hassled by shifting a million times to get down the main strip, in bumper to bumper traffic the automatic is my best friend. So I guess you can say Im conflicted with this issue
