repair books

Hi all,
I bought a Chilton book for my car. I have a ford 500.
The book is suppose to cover ford 500, Taurus, Montego.
I went to change the spark plugs and the book said to remove the upper manifold. It also said that the lower manifold was separate.

Well it was not right, the whole manifold came off.
I did not relieve the fuel pressure because it did not say too.
When I took the fuel line off to get the manifold off luckily not much fuel came out.
I could not relieve the fuel pressure the way your suppose to by removing the relay fuse and starting the car because I was way into it with all the disconnecting that was done.

I heard that Chilton bought Haynes. But the book says Haynes on the inside cover.

Should we be trusting these repair manuals anymore?
I noticed a few things missing while I was paging through the book one day.
How would I get a book specific to my car?
I guess it will cost a lot uh?
Thanks. Any thoughts?

If you need specific repair information, diagrams etc, post a description of what you need or PM a request and should be able to help..
