Default 1977 Ford pinto 2.3L cylinder head question

Inside of the exhaust port, there are small holes that taper out and come out below the exhaust ports. Never seen anything like it. Question is can i use a late model header from a 2.3L ranger or does someone make a header that matches the holes? Thanks in advance

Thermactor air ports, where the air pump would inject air as part of the emission system, Smog.

thank you. I kinda thought it might be emissions. I want to put a header on so I'm thinking I might weld up the holes. I'm afraid if I don't weld them that the header gasket will blow. Thanks again.
