Default F150 or f100?

so I recently picked up what I thought to be a 1976 f100. But after reading a few threads on here about deciphering the VIN I’m kind of stumped. So on my title under model it says f10 which I just Automatically assumed was 2wd f100, but the first 3 characters of my VIN are F15. So after reading some of the threads it made me think that it’s a F150. Is there anyone that can give me some more guidance on this? By the way this is my first project in a few years and first time using this forum. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site.,

I’d go by the VIN.
The F100 was a little lighter and required to have a cat and all the emissions controls. The F150 was the 'heavy half' and at the time if the GVW exceeded 6000 pounds no emissions controls were required, and Ford up’d suspension on the F100 to make it weight 6050 pounds, therefore emissions controls exempt. Since it was a cross between F200 and F100 parts, F150 was born. A few years later, emissions were required on all. In the transition it was mainly just marketing to make them "new".
Does your truck have emissions equipment? Fuel restrictor/flap in the fuel neck for unleaded? How many springs in the rear leaf stack?
