4r44e will not go into drive from reverse or neutral but will go into drive from 1-2
 

Hello I have a 4r44e and was just wondering if anyone would know which internal part could be causing my issue.
1996 4r44e ranger 2x4
if you shift into drive from neutral it will not engage but if you manually go from first then second then into drive it will engage and go through all gears including OD (4th) . I’ve changed out the valve body with a Remanufactured And same issue.
would appreciate any advice so I can replace only what’s needed unless it has to be overhauled. Reverse works.

Does the OD light flash and have you checked for any codes? There is a switch which tells the computer what gear you are in but without more information, that's bit premature to suspect at this time.
