C4 Ford transmission

This may take a little bit of time to ask a question I have a 1974 C4 Ford transmission when I rebuilt the motor we figured we needed to freshen up the transmission it had a little slit when it went to high gear but that was all what's wrong with it when when I drove you home I had no automatic but if I shifted it manually I had all three gears when we decided to pull the transmission back out I found a broken ring on the pump where we fix that and we did not go into the valve body before because was no problem well since we had this snow automatic problem we decided to go into the valve body well now when I go from low to second the back Wheels to lock up it passed all the air test that I've seen on the inter the governor the band work with the air test the clutch engage with the air put two different spraggs put all new thrust washers throughout the transmission I have tried 3 different valve bodies any suggestions greatly appreciate

I would suspect you installed one of the sprags backwards.

Sprag

I took one out of a 69 transmission together and put it in there I drove it home with it then I bought one on eBay from a transmission company that have been inspected and put it in there did not take it apart just bolted it in

I can't think of any other possibility at this time.
The sprags can fool anyone if they don't know which way they are installed.
If it locks in the direction it is supposed to freewheel that could explain the problem.
