2000 windstar drivtrain
Hello, I am looking for some help diagnosing a problem with my 2000 winstar which I purchased new and now ha 212,000 miles on it. I know it is near the end of its useful life but I need to get about another year out of it as cheaply as possible. For about the last year when I go around a corner I would have to coast around it, if I accelerated on a corner the was a lot of chatter in the drivetran. Now, the other day when was pulling in to the garage it felt I ran over something and my tire was pushing it. I got out and looking but nothing was there, so I tried backing up. When I tried reverse it felt like I was brake touqeing it and I could not back up, it was not slipping. So I tried to pull forward and it felt like I was dragging a tire. I have to push it get in the garage the rest of the way and it pushed fine.
Then I put it on jack stands and pulled the tires and tried drive and reverse. The drivetrain turned but it is very jerky but it turns. It is not slipping it seem tied up somewhere.
I have done some research and I feel it is the transmit ion, the torque converter or a CV joint.
I need to figure out exactly what is wrong with it. If it is something major I am really not interested in fixing it. I just don’t want to junk it if I fix it for a reasonable amount of time and money.
Any help or comments are appreciated and I thank you in advance.
Thanks again
Paul
