98 Windstar -- Attention all GHOSTbusters

Help! I'm chasing a ghost here! We've had the car professionally scanned and come away with a "cylinder 1" issue. The mechanic suggested a tune-up: new plugs, wires, filters - the works. So we had them do it. One week later the service engine light comes on again, with the same issue. So, the mechanic changes out our coil pack. Three days go by and HELLO, the light is on AGAIN, this time saying that cylinder 1 and cylinder 2 are running lean but we've already changed out all the O2 sensors. Somebody please help me locate the problem. I've spent $950.00 on this ghost and still no relief in sight. Any and all input is welcomed and greatly appreciated. :)

Have you had the upper/lower intake gaskets and hold-down bolt gromlets replaced yet? These over time have caused LEAN issues on the 3.8 in the Windstars.

From what you describe , I think your mechanic is not fully examining the situation and just throwing parts at it.
I agree with Use Common Sense and some more detailed testing should be done before replacing any more parts hoping to correct what they think is the problem.
Good diagnostic work and the right equipment will usually pin down the problem.I think since you paid a lot of money and the problem has not been corrected you might let the mechanic know that and question why the parts were replaced and the problem still exists.

Thank you

Thank you "Use Common Sense" and "hanky" - I will take that information to the mechanic and see what he does with it. This is his first Windstar, so I don't know what he'll do with it. I'm thinking I should just take the car to the dealer and let them work with it. Get some experienced eyes on the situation so to say.
