I owned a 1996 Ford Explorer and purchased an extra roof rack support for it. I since sold it and now own a 2000 Ford Windstar and need to replace one of the supports, but the Explorer one is about an inch too long. Can I drill out the star rivets, hacksaw down the crossbeam, drill two holes and use screws to make it shorter???

Any problems with that??? Any easier way to do it?? I'd like to unscrew the star screws, but don't have a tool for it...
