Windstar clock spring
 

My 2002 Ford Windstar sport needs a new clock spring. When my mechanic looked it up, the parts number he got off the computer is 1f2z14a664ab .

This part has been discontinued and I cannot find it used anywhere. Can I use a clock spring from a 2002 Windstar that has a different part number?

This is what you could do,
Call your local Ford dealership ,Parts Dept, have your VIN ready and ask if they have or can get the clocksping for you. They have the info what years will fit what years.
If you get it there , you will get the right part the first time and they may even tell you what else you should get. It's great to sit and order on line and HOPE you get the right part even if you provide what you HOPE is the correct part number. Yes it just might cost a little more, but believe me it is worth the trouble ! !

This was my first step. I have called every local Ford dealer and none of them have the part I need. It has been discontinued.

I’m right now awaiting such parts as to warrant an entire day wasted on the phone searching. Incidentally if you’ll ever change your rack and pinion do be careful to replace your old check valve into you new unit

This vehicle is to old for me to know for sure but on present day vehicles there are usually at least two different clock springs, one would be for the high trim level that has lots of buttons on the steering wheel, the other for low trim levels that have much fewer buttons on the steering wheel. Usually the high trim level one will work in place of the low trim level one. So it may be worth having ford look up all clock springs for your year and if there is another version still available you could buy it and see if it works. This is of course a gamble and you should not be expect to be able to return it if it does not work.
