Windstar won't start...sometimes
2003Windstar has failed to start on 3 different occasions over the past month. Theonly sound is "click, click" when turning key. Took it to AdvanceAuto, and battery, starter, and alternator (which is new) all tested"good." Yesterday an interior light was left on for 3 hours and thevan wouldn't start. Jumped it and it started fine. Came out this morning and itstarted fine again. 30 minutes later my wife tried to start it and it was deadagain, so she had to get a jump. One very strange thing is that after the vanis jumpstarted, the hazard lights are on, even though they had not been turnedon previously.
Anyideas are very much appreciated! |
There are a number of ground connections that are worth of checking and cleaning: check and clean the battery negative terminal, check the cable see if corrosion went into the cable under the insulation. Follow these cables where they connect to the engine and body. do the same on the positive side. Check and clean connections at the starter.
Try replacing the starter relay. After my battery went dead the hazards were on as well. |
