got a 2000 ford e250 .just gutted the catalytic convertor instead of paying 5-700.00 for a oem fit .
now it threw a p1151 code .
this a direct result of gutting the convertor?
the 02 sensor is after the convertor.can i just ignore the lamp?
will taking the 12 lead off the battery for a hour help?as in will the computer relearn and adapt to not having a catalytic convertor?

When I try to help someone with an automotive problem, I try to stay within the law.
The systems are designed to prevent people from altering emission equip.
When you do what you have done,the converter police in the system make that light come on and will not take no for an answer.
I know it's not cheap to fix, but do it once and do it right , how about it?

 

i hear what your saying ,just so darn expensive .i only drive it a couple days a week.

 

Have you tried a couple of muffler shops . Maybe they can either get a quick replacement for you or even put one in for possibly a lesser amount.

 

one place quoted me 1075.00 for everything from the y pipe on back .
i gutted the cat and replaced everything from that back myself for 225.00

just dont like that service engine soon light in my eyes now .

 

That darn light can be expensive to put out sometimes.
Try shopping around somebody will be able to help you for a smaller price, just make sure what they do is right because ,,,,,,,,,,,well you already know. Don't give up !

 

after researching the code i come to find out that this is the upstream sensor on the drivers side before the cat .so this could turn out to just be a 50 dollar fix .

 

IOn My experience you can get a used cat from a junkyard and the upside of fixing it right would be fuel economy . You r comp is using a rich map instead of leaning out your motor for best fuel ecomy . Thats why you newer van was getting 16 mpg instead of 11 like the older ones? Pay now or Pay later you Pick. i am addressing the problem .bought the needed 02 sensor and awaiting its arrival .
this van does have 200k on it .runs like a top .i will update after i get the sensor installed and get some miles on it .takes like a 40 mile run to throw a code.
