Low fuel warning

Low fuel warning
I have a 2014 Ford Escape. The low fuel alarm is so low I can't hear it. I previously owned a 2008 Ford Fusion and that alarm was loud and it would go off starting at 50 miles to go and every 10 miles thereafter until I refueled. On the Escape, there is just one tiny ding and if I have the radio on, I don't hear it. Is it supposed to be that way?

You would be surprised to see what crap is found in fuel tanks and this stuff when sucked into the internal sock filter causes the demise of the fuel pump and can stop a car dead in it's tracks. If the owner relies so much on the low fuel warning that little ding would be the least of their problems. It is not a good practice to run the fuel level down that low if possible. Water also accumulates in the bottom and a low fuel level causes the pump to pick up this water and it is supposed to get trapped in the filter, but some does get past and do bad things to the injectors and performance. Any $ saved by running the level down that low can cause more $ in future expense to repair the damage.
