Default ABS blinking, can't shift into gear

My truck starts, but I cannot shift into gear.
The ABS light is blinking on the dash when I try to shift into gear.

Many times the manual will tell you what those blinking light mean. I'd check there first.
Maybe someone else hear will know off the top of there head what it means.

What year, engine, etc. is the truck?

I had a Lincoln Markviii that had a similar problem. There was a brake pressure sensor mounted on the brake line coming out of the master cylinder. It monitored the brake fluid pressure. When you stepped on the brake pedal then you increased the brake fluid pressure and this disengaged your cruise control. It was somehow tied in with the ABS sytem also. My senor went bad and then I could not shift out of park. My ABS light was on also. The senor going bad also took out a fuse for that cicuit. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I had a 3" body lift installed a few weeks ago and the problems started this past week on my 1997 Ford F-150 SuperCab. The shifting has been slightly fixed. I am able to manually override the shifter to drive my truck until I can get it fixed, but it still does not shift out of Park like it is supposed to.

The Ford dealership said that the wires were pull out of the speed control sensor above the differential and that is causing the ABS light to blink. The shop that installed the kit check this sensor and all is okay. The wires are not stretched and looks okay.

I'll check the brake pressure sensor at the brake line and also look and see if any fuses sre blown.

I cheked the brake line and the dealership replaced the jumper harness as part of a recall. This jumper harness has an internal fuse that can not be replaced. If blown, the entire jumper harness needs to be replaced.

The ABS light still blinks when I press on the brake.

Any suggestions.

mrglass39, I found this at Wikianswers.com. It may be helpful to you. The guy says to take it to your dealer to have it reset in the computer. I have had some luck reseting the computer by removing the positve lead on the battery and then holding it to ground for a little bit to let the computer discharge. Then reconnecting to the battery. Anyway, here is the link: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_would_...ht_be_blinking

Good luck.

get a chiltons manual and it'll tell you how to read those ABS codes. Most of the time when it blinks it's really blinking in a series describing the problem to you. i had the same issue and replaced a little 15 dollar sensor - problem fixed - hope it's an easy fix for you too.

Okay, the ABS has been fixed and I can shift into gear without having to manually override the shifter.
Solution, fuse contolling the brake lights was blown and the brake pedal switch was also replaced.

Of course, the new problem is that I cannot start my truck at all unless putting the key in the ignition and going under the hood and hotwiring at new two bolts on the firewall near the battery. I do not know what this is called.

I'm told to replace the Neutral Safety Switch and I will do that this weekend. I 've read that this control starting the truck from park or neutral only.

Hopefully this works.

Any suggestions, please reply.

Thanks

Your solonoid could have gone bad if you have to jump it like that.
