Default 2010 Powerstroke Starting Issue

I'll preface this by saying last night I installed a plug and play xenon hid kit into my factory fog lights, complete with provided ballasts for the hid lights. No wiring was cut or changed, factory wiring was used.

This morning I went to start my truck and after cycling the glow plugs turned the ignition to start but only got a click. I tried a few more clicks with no luck. My light switch was in the auto position with fog lights off. For some reason I turned the lights off, hit the key, and it started with no problem. Turned it off, turned the switch to park lights, wouldn't start. Turned them to on, wouldn't start. Turned them off again, started.

After work today I was going to show a buddy my issue. Turned the lights to auto, clicked once or twice, then started on my third attempt with auto still on.

I'm stumpped. Is it interference from my hids, or is it a coincidental starter cylinoid or bad connection? Any ideas?

The days of adding on things to today's vehicles can create some weird problems.
They contain MANY modules that are designed and built to operate within certain ranges and the minute we add something to the system with an add-on appliance crazy things happen. For instance, any additional current draw is perceived as a potential short circuit and for self preservation the module shuts down. The module may be part of a loop and other modules now don't communicate with some crazy results. In this case starting system problems arise. Sometimes you can get away with connecting these appliances directly from the battery and even then the new systems monitor battery drain and charging system function with some pretty complicated electronics. Sometimes the system can be programmed to accept addl appliances . Would suggest you check with your Ford dealership service dept as to whether this can be done with your vehicle.
