Default 2004 Freestar problems

Hello,
Problems with my 2004 4.2 freestar are as follows: ABS..when light comes on, usually after turning a corner it won't go out. This then renders the cruise control inoperable. Problem 2: Seat heaters have quit along with backup sensors and passenger vent window. Have checked all fuses and can find nothing. One day it all worked. The next it all died. Any thoughts??

ABS/Cruise issue may be your brake pressure sensor (Most common cause of this problem).

How do you know that the seat heaters, backup sensors and the RR window vent all went the same day? Any type of pre-symptoms? If both seat heaters are out and the fuses OK, I would start looking at common grounds. The Freestar loves it grounds and they have to be good clean grounds. Any borderline grounds and the Gremlins come out to play. Just ask "Boomerang53", he just recently killed his Ground Gremlin here https://www.fordforum.com/forum/ford...-issues-32146/

Default 2005 ford Freestar

1,200 to fix a eletronic modual on the trans 3 years ago. Now the whole trans went and dealer wanted $3,330 to put in a rebuilt with 3 year warrenty. Though the Ford dealer was ripping me off, and they were. Went to a Trans shop with a excellent reputation and he put in a rebuilt for $2,200 with a LIFE TIME warrenty. The rebuilt was probably from the same company the dealer was going to buy it from.

The trans shop said he replaces freestar and windstar trans all the time, that they only last about 100,000, if that. Mine had 87, 000.

Moral of the story is that Ford makes garbage, and the dealr will rip you off.

How many times did you change your trans fluid in the 87,000 miles?

The "Not Recommended", but "Specified" fluid change interval for these transmissions is every 30,000 miles. Most people DO NOT do this fluid change at every 30,000 miles if at all. I replaced my trans filter and fluid at around the 30,000 miles point. Installed AMSOIL ATF (100,000+ mile fluid) at that time. Did another fluid exchange only around 100,000 miles. At 178,000 miles, my transmission hasn't even blinked and eye and it's had quite a few hard and hot miles put on it. I will be performing another fluid and filter change at the 200,000 mile mark.
