how to locate/change the ignition coil?
My Ford Freestar's Check-engine light is on. I guess probably it is because of the ignition coil. Does anybody know how to locate/change the ignition coil? Many thanks! -Sarah

Have you pulled of had any codes pulled for the CEL?. What is the code(s)?
Anyways...The ignition coil is located onj the rear valve cover.
The easiest way to access the coil is to...
1. Remove both wiper arms
2. Remove the upper cowling (be careful not to break the retaining clips along the windshield)
3. Remove the screws/bolts holding down the lower cowling
4. Lift up the lower cowling on the right side, unplug the wiper motor
5. Remove the lower cowling
6. Now you have full access to the ingition coil
7. Use dielectrical grease on the plug boot ends
8. Reverse the procedure and DO NOT forget to plug your wiper motor back in. If you do forget to plug it in... you're going to have an "Oooohhh MAN!" moment...

Here is a link to a picture for the cowling components.
Item #1 is the upper (the one you see between the hood and windshield)
Item #5 is the lower (located directly under item #1)

Your P0303 could be caused by a bad plug, wire or the coil. Have your replaced the plugs and wires yet? If not, I would go a head and install new plugs, wires and a coil. The rear plugs will be easily accessable with the cowl removed. I use copper anti-sieze on the plug threads. The aluminum type tends to bake on making the plugs hard to remove. Also use dielectrical grease on both ends of the plug boots, this eliminates the possibility of spark leakage. Don.t forget to properly dress the plug wires in to elininate the possibility of cross firing.
