Default 97 fuel gauge doesnt work :(

I just got a 97 ranger with the 2.3 liter engine in it. The fuel gauge doesn't work, somebody told me that it is probably the "float sensor" in the gas tank? I'm not sure if thats the actual name of the part, b/c i cant find it under that name anywhere. Plus, I dont kow if thats even the problem, so can you all help out and tell the "proper" name, and where i can get one online?

Think the 97 still used the 'brass' tank sender float.. They like to crack in the groove that the float arm clipped around.. The floatwould fill with fuel through the crack and sink the float registering an empty tank all the time.. Could be the anti slosh module in the instrument panel or a circuit problem in between.. Back at the tank module/sender connector, momentarily ground the Y/W wire as someone watches the gauge and see if the the gauge raises and/orregisters full..
