9.7” Android 13 CarPlay Radio GPS SWC 32GB install on 2014 Ford Transit Connect issue
After installing a 9.7” Android 13 CarPlay Radio GPS SWC 32GB in my 2014 Ford Transit Connect, the airbag indicator light has come on. There was a small circuit board labeled airbag on/off with a 6 pin male plug included in the wiring kit but I could not find where it was to be installed. Anyone have any suggestions? Also the only button on the lower horizontal selector that worked was the emergency flashers. The door lock, power button, Navi, menu, and back button does nothing. I only have wiring from the Canbus decoder going from the decider into the radio and nothing connected on the other side of the decoder. Will check into that.

Buy a metra stereo harness on Amazon (free return) and make sure it fits your car, then compare that with the one that came with your HU. You might need to depin and repin the connector.
Airbag is not on any BUS network and it shouldn't be affected, you probably didn't disconnect your battery ground when doing the install, so I guess you can do a RCM (Restraint Control Module) reset and see if the light goes away. For the other devices like power door locks those are under BCM, so try to do a BCM reset as well. If your scanner can perform the reset, use it, otherwise just disconnect the battery and see. |

Thanks for the reply. You are right about not disconnecting the ground since it was way back against firewall. I took the easy way out and unhooked the positive cable. I will try a complete battery unhook to see if that resets it. I don’t think my scanner will reset the BCM but I can try. I’ll reply with my results.

On RCM reset you might need to remove both, negative first, then positive. Try the negative only first. Check google to find out how to reset RCM and BCM. If you have a scanner like Foxwell NT510 Elite you can reset both modules.
So your Android HU is working fine or not? When you buy a direct fit Android HU, the harness should be plug n play but there is no guarantee. If it's not working still you might have to depin and repin. You mentioned about Navi, so you most likely don't need to use the GPS antenna that came with your HU, you can locate the SYNC module and find out where the factory GPS antenna is and the type of connector (i.e. Fakra to SMA) then split or extend it to the back of your HU, not sure if you will get thrown an error when you delete your SYNC module or you leave it as is. Just an idea to use your factory antenna and you always get better reception. If your HU has 2 GPS antenna ports, you still can hook up one of them to your factory antenna. |

Well, the battery disconnect did not work. Airbag light did go off for a second but came back in steady. The GPS antennae that came with the HU is working and I can access it from the apps option. Google maps works once connected to my hotspot. Just can’t access maps from the Navi button on the lower buttons. My scanner is low level so I will purchase on today that can scan and reset SRS. The only other roadblock on install was there was no accessory power or run power from factory harness that I found which was odd. I just picked up power from elsewhere and cut and spliced into ACC/RUN wire going into radio plug.

Yes, try a scanner like nt510 elite w/ ford, it has bidirectional support and you can reset any module and even run active test to turn on your reverse light with your scanner as long as the reverse light is controlled by a module. Can't guarantee you what features are supported until the scanner is plugged into your vehicle, maybe TPMS and key FOB programmings and battery registration too. On some other vehicles even some coding and programming are supported.
You said the factory buttons underneath your stereo are not working, I think you need to play around with the steering wheel mapping (even those are NOT on your steering wheel) under the setup configurations in your HU. If the airbag light stays on after a battery ground disconnect that's probably because the memory didn't get reset. If you have unrestricted unlimited hotspot and you are the sole driver that's fine. If not, and if your HU has sim card support and you have T-Mobile and some AT&T, it might be a better idea for perhaps $10/month per sim card (data only). Without sim card support you will need a USB dongle. |
Good morning Heiiko. I went back into my email of the HU purchase and looked at the wiring harnesses provided and lo and behold, I noticed the little airbag card connected to one on the smaller connectors. I plugged it up and connected it to a cap harness that was originally plugged into the main function control of the OEM radio, that had passenger airbag indicator, that I had missed, and that solved that problem. Airbag light off when running. I will try your suggestion on programming the steering wheel functions although I don’t have steering wheel functions and see if that fixes the lower functions issue. Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Something else to check. If those factory buttons illuminate at night time, you know they are getting power at the very least. If not you might want to look at the connector on the back of it.
I don't have any wiring diagram for your 2014, my alldata supports up to 2007 any car, else I could provide you the diagram for you to bench test just those buttons. |
