Default '66 Galaxie sedan 390 brought to life

Hi, new guy here. Wife and son gave me a '66 Galaxie sedan 390 as a Father's Day present last summer. It didn't run for more than a few years with 2nd owner. First owner lady had 36k miles on it. Long story short: replaced all fluids, spark plugs, pipes, cleaned carb and got it running again last week. Working on brakes now. Problem is: when running and on Drive, the car will not move until I step on the gas really hard. Same for reverse. When moving between gears, I don't feel the gear 'engaging' like a 'normal' transmission would.

This is my project and before going on a limb, I decided to ask you guys, the experts.

Got any advise?
