when you get the timing light disconnect the vaccume advance hose and adjust timing to eight degrees before tdc that will stop the engine from kicking back on the starter. another thing to test alt. while it's running you can remove one of the cables from the battery and if still running the alt and voltage regulator is good. a person can't do that on these efi engines. you should be okay as long as you taped up the wiring to the solenoid and no wire is exposed shorting out the other wires.

Thanks! Its all fixed now! I figured out that for some reason the regulator is why the car wasnt charging right, and the alternator was somehow DRAWING power when the car was off, killing it overnight. I put in a BWD voltage regulator, pretty and works great, and a new 65 amp alternator, and it charges great! Thanks!
