Hard to start when warm
We have a 1971 Torino with a new 302ci, with a standard 2 barrel carb, mechanical fuel pump. It starts great cold and runs fine. It is very hard to start when it is warmed up. Once we get it running it blows a lot of black carbon smoke. We have tried new coil, new plugs (E3s), overhauled the carb prior to installing on the new engine. We did not have any problems when the engine was brand new, about 500 miles ago. It seems to be flooding without pushing the gas. Any ideas?

Might want to check the power valve on the bottom of the float bowl. Under the small square cover. They liked to leak and bleed fuel into the intake manifold after a hot soak.
And, with the air cleaner off, after the engine is shut down, look into the carb veturi and see if you see any fuel dripping. The power valve will bleed fuel under the throttle plates, but sometimes you may see a leak/drip at the top metering area's.
