Okay so bare with me as I am still learning. I have a 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 V8 5.8L 302. Im replacing the caruburetor but I am not sure what is best. I current have a stock 2 barrel carb. I believe the brand it Autolite or similar. Now I know a 302 has its limits but I want to try and increase my gas mileage and power if possible. I found an intake manifold online.

So this would allow me to attach two 2 Barrel carburetors. OR I could go with this:
Buy Edelbrock Performer RPM 2-R; Intake Manifold 7163 at Advance Auto Parts
Or whatever i may specifically need! But Basically, what would be the best to consider? One 4 barrel or two 2 barrels? What are the gains of what? Thank you in advance!

 

well first off the 302 is a 5.0 not a 5.8 the 5.8 is 351. as with any engine there is trade off with power for fuel econ. if you want more power then put the duel carbs. if you want a little more power than what you're getting right now then you want the one 4 bbl and that one will not only increase power but just might give you a little better fuel econ. as well

yes but keep in mind that there is still a compromise power for econ. depending on what you're gonna do with it like drive it like you stole it or go on a daily drive with your grandmother

 

well I have read a few pages and what I always read is that if I get a 4 barrel, something to do with the jet size, makes it so the 4 barrel tends to be a little more fuel efficient if I dont floor it out of every stop sign haha.

 

be careful of that cause if you get one that's too big what you'll end up with is flooding out the engine and losing both power and econ. the four bbl carbs work in two stages the front two are the primary and back two are secondary I'm guessing that your car has the ford 9 inch rear end am I correct in assuming that?

 

uhm im not sure haha how can i figure that out? Forgive me this is my first antique restoration on a limited budget. Im only 18 :P

 

if no one has touched the differential there should be tag or metal strip bolted to it on the back plate cover and they put the 9 inch rear ends in just about every thing they made back then

do you know what the back wheels are bolted to? I'm not trying to insult you but it sounded a little funny when I read it. so I'm sorry for my question if it sounded hard or like I'm a smart ars the rear end is at the back of the car and under the trunk. you'll have to jack up the rear of the car to see the differential.
