Default 99 Ford Contour fuel issue?

I have a 99 ford contour (2.5l DOHC V6). The car had been siiting over a year and was rarely started. I am now trying to get it back on the road. (ran fine prior to parking it) I drained the fuel tank, replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, and fuel pump fuse. When I turn the key, I can hear the fuel pump cycle for a few seconds. I drained about half a cup of fuel from the relief valve (schrader valve?) until the fuel was clear. My problem is that it still will not start. I just sprayed starting fuel in the intake and the vehicle starts right up, until it burns off the fluid and then shuts right off. I have spark, I have air so my guess is that it is a fuel issue, but where do I start troubleshooting next? Thanks in advance.

When you are cranking the engine does the check engine lite stay on or does it go out?

I will check again when i get home, but I am almost certain that the CEL was going off when cranking over.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I'm having this exact issue. I could've posted this exact question. My son's car has been sitting and we performed the same things as above. Any help out out there?

I am having issues with my 99 contour. I just replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and the fuel pump relay. I checked the fuse and that is good. Put a jumper on the inertia pig tail. Still didn’t get my fuel pump to send fuel to the fuel rail. I am running out of ideas and don’t know what to do now. Please help!!
