Car Stalls / works great / stalls / works great...
1996 Ford Contour 70,000 miles 4 cylinder. Starts and runs great, but sometimes stalls out at any speed. Always starts right back up after pulling over, but then may do it again 5 times in 5 miles. On the return trip, it may not happen even once. Some days it doesn't do it at all. Not weather related. There is no sputtering or stuttering...it just dies. Always starts up and takes off instantly. Tune up was done about 1/2 year ago, including plugs, fuel filter, etc. No trouble codes at present but was getting P0171 (too lean - bank 1) for a while after the tune-up (but not now).
It can happen anywhere...hills, level...but always seems to be during accelerating (vs. steady speed). Another thing, which may not be related as it has been doing this for quite some time...when driving in a parking lot around 10 MPH often the car will surge (feels like the gas pedal is being pressed and release rapidly) while accelerating...but this never causes stalling.
Any suggestions much appreciated!! Thanks!! CT

Sounds like a CPU problem. Mine did that when it would get hot. it would always start up and run again until the CPU heated up again. If you can get it to autozone and get it to do it and then hook up there computer to it, it might give you a "can not link up message"
