Default possible engine interchange

I have a 97 Contour GL with 2.0 that needs replacing. Are the Contour and Mercury Mystique 2.0 the only engines that will drop right in without extra adapting?

I would think all ford/mecury 2.0's are the same except the intake's and wiring.

I beleive the Escort 2.0Zetec is the same as you have. As long as they're the same year I would think it would work.

Only the Contour and Mystique's work straight across. The Escort 2.0 is different.

Look at the 8th digit in VIN, this should also tell you comparable engines between body styles.
