Ford Contour While only built on a short time span, the Contour was very popular with people of all driving styles, from the base model making for a great family car, to the SVT making a great track toy.

Default Trunk won't lift...

I have a 98 Contour LX...Well my trunk wouldn't lift up so I replaced the struts and it still wouldn't lift. I don't have a spoiler but I put the stronger struts made for trunks with spoilers on it and THOSE don't even lift it. Any ideas on why it won't lift?!

As far as I know, the Hood "supports" aren't designed to lift the trunk lid automatically, just to support it in the up position once you manually lift it. It doesn't sound like you have a problem but just normal operation.

Ok new rule, please only reply if you know what your taking about...why the hell would the trunk STRUTS only support the trunk? Why would Ford put a release in the front of the car if the struts don't actually lift the trunk up? Think about that one genius.

He's right, the trunklid does not raise itself, it just pops up unlatched and then you have to manually raise it.

That's the story the struts do not raise the trunk lid only support it.

Yeah, I'm a mechanic so your rule is applicable here, and the struts do not lift trunk, only support it. Way to go though you just insulted someone who was trying to help you, and your wallet is $45 lighter for the struts you did not need. On a side note you might try lubricatring your hinges on trunk it might help get a little more lift when trunk is released.
