Default 1985 LTD mid-size wagon left rear light

When the car is running and the headlight switch is turned on the fuse blows on the left rear light. The bulb and socket were replaced with new ones. I don't see any ground wire to clean. A mechanic replaced a multifunction switch and something else which I can check on. Another mechanic thought it might have been wired wrong. There is a first inertia switch behind the tail light in the fender which I think has something to do with fuel. Just though I would mention it.

Any suggestions. Thanks Bob

I believe that when the bulb was in the socket it blew the fuse, when out, it didn't. Same thing as cutting wires isn't it? I just used all the shrink wrap and couplers so I don't really want to buy more. There is a black wire going into the socket. Is that a ground wire? I doubt if I have a 12v test light but I do have a multi-meter.

There is only one #85874 socket. If there is a backup light it is in the bumper, but I don't think so. I noticed the original 1157 bulb dimmed compared to the other one but I don't know where the ground wire is to clean it. Thanks.

There are 3 wires coming out of the socket one of which is black. Wouldn't that be the ground and since it is new and clean wouldn't there be another ground somewhere else? or is that what you are going to determine?

I had the directions on my flash drive but this library computer program and my own aren't compatible, so I couldn't run the test. The new bulb socket wouldn't hold the bulb tightly and had to be moved to the side to work. I cut the wires and separated them like you said. The motor was running and the headlights turned on. The fuse didn't blow. I put the old socket in after cleaning the contacts.

I'm confused about the last instructions. The wires should be cut, take one with power and touch it to one of the wires going into the socket? Connect the ground wire to the grd in the socket? Maybe this isn't needed now?

Couldn't find by repair bill but I think the other switch was for the turn signals.

I am used to a needle type MM and had to use a digital. If I got a big response I considered it to have continuity.

The grn/red goes to the turn signal, black to grd. There was no light for the brown wire.

The rear bulb didn't light with the brown wire and the headlight switch turned on because the fuse wasn't in. The turn signal worked with the red/grn wire.

Well, that didn't work, blew another fuse. I suppose that something is wrong with the brown wire or at the end of it.

Had to take the new socket holder back, the bulb wasn't tight enough. Auto Zone manager wouldn't refund it. Called CS today and they said he should have so more nonsense ahead. Oh well

Both parking lights come on when the headlight switch on. The lights stay on. If your start the motor and turn the lights on than it blows the fuse and both tail lights go out. The headlights stay on.
