Default Alternator problem ?

Hi I have a 2000 P71 Crown vic, when I start my car the battery light goes on and the indicator goes down, if I give it a lil gas or go on the highway and everything goes back to normal. I changed my battery to a new one and it still does the same thing. Car has no problem starting, and I can leave it on idle for 2h without the batt light and indicator going down. So I dont know where I am now.. If I give gas, alternator is charging my battery and everything is ok, but my batt is new from yesterday, why would it be empty?
Someone told me about a diode thing in the alternator.. anyone knows anything about this problems before I blow up something ?

Thx

Could possibly be the alternator. When you start it does the battery light go on and indicator go down for a long period of time (making the engine stall) or is it only a second or two?

Use a VOM (volt OHM Meter) the alternator should be putting out 14.5 volts at all times if it isn't you have a bad alternator!!!
