Default 1981 E250 Transmission leak

Greetings,

New guy to the site....just aquired a 1981 E250 from a Fire Department yesterday.
47,000 orrig miles!
351W engine and automatic (which I haven't identified yet)

Driving it home, I developed a major tranny fluid leak at the bellhousing.
Made it home by stopping and adding a total of 6 quarts.

Question is:
What type of transmission came in this series van with the 351W engine....and what is typically the leak culprit?

I want to use the van to haul and tow.

Dave

Well.....got the front seal changed out and the van is back to (almost) normal operation. Reverse is a little sluggish, but I need another quart of tranny fluid (came up short one).

It has the C6 transmission I figured out.

Dave
