Default 2010 E250 Rear Caliper Removel

Hey everyone. Need some help on replacing rear pads on my 2010 E250. I never say a set up like it. The caliper bolts are under a rubber cap and appear to be a T-55 screw. The problem is, the top screw is only 1 - 1 1/2 inches from the leaf spring not allowing me to get a bit in place. Is there a special tool to get to this screw or do I have to remove the entire mounting plate with the caliper attached? Or do I have to loosen the 4 u-bolts holding axle to the spring to drop the axle enough to get to the screw? Any help would be appreciated

You need to remove the two bolts for the bracket that the caliper is mounted on. They are I believe 18mm head and held in with thread locker.

Thanks, Hanky. That looked like the only alternitive just a little hard to do on jackstands and a gravel driveway. (hard to get that leverage)

Good mechanics/technicians don't usually hammer on wrenches.
If you haven't tried it yet, you might take a combination open end /box wrench and place the box end on the bolt head then hook another box wrench on the open end and that will give you an extension with additional leverage. It saves knuckles too!

What a horrible piece of engineering by ford on the rear caliper setup on the Econoline. I have been a Ford guy for a long long long time and I have never seen such poor design. I get the "take it back to the dealer" mentality Ford takes when developing and designing these setups, but as far as this design on a common wear items is ridiculous. Well that is my rant for the year, time to go work on this poor design.
