Default 5.4 Liter Coil And Plug Changes 1999 E150 Econoline

Me and my Dad are in the process of replacing all plugs in my 5.4. We have put new coils in 6 and 8 cylinder. Putting old coil back on the others. Pulled out coil in cylinder 3 with no problem but it doesn’t reinstall easily. It seems too large but it is the same size as the other coils. Came out easily but having to stuff it back in. Anyone have experience with this?

When you say it "seems too large", do you mean the boot is too big to go into the engine or that the head of the coil is too big to fit around obstacles?

Make sure there are no obstructions in the plug well and try the coil from a different cylinder in that location.

Default Coil Fitment

I just did plugs and coils on my 2006 E150 Chateau. I had the same issue. You can purchase new boots only for the coils. I did that and they slid in perfectly.

Good advice. I was pretty tired and left the socket in the well. I have another question. We had to go through the doghouse to access some of the cylinders so we cut my driver door bell because working with the doors open it was driving us crazy. Now the vehicle won’t start and I am trying to bypass anti theft system. I popped off the cover under the steering wheel planning to pull the wires in the anti theft module box and reroute with a paper clip conduit. I do t see the box I’m looking for Maybe it’s smaller than what I’m expecting to see. I’m not sure

thank you for the advice. It was my fault I left the socket in there but I figured it out eventually. I’m having another issue trying to get around the anti theft system. I commented above. If you have any suggestions I’d appreciate it. I popped the cover under the steering wheel but can’t find the anti theft module box

Default Coil and Plug Change

You should ALWAYS disconnect the battery before doing any work that involves power connections. That would have solved the door chime issue and prevented any accidental shorts.

Default Anti theft box.

You cannot just disable componemts and cut wires. EVERTHING routes through the ECM and sometimes there are crossovers between systems that will cause issues like you have reported.

Yeah, it was an oversight, but you’re right. So now I’m trying to figure out how to bypass this or get some advice here in how to move forward.

Sure, that’s what’s happening now. I understand it wasn’t ideal to do that now and I’m interested in any advice on bypassing this. Thanks
