Default 88 e350 ambulance carb/light questions

ok so my uncle owns an 88 e350 ambulance, and we are changing the carb on it. its a 460. ive never changed a carb before, but i am mechanicly inclined and feel it should be an easy job. my question is, is there anything i need to know before i change the carb, or is it as simple as taking the old one out and putting hte new one in or is there much fine tuning to be involved?

also, the ambulance is now converted to a pet ambulance and unfortunaly connecticut law states that any non-offical vehical is not aloud to have red lights on it, and the van is covered with them. would there be any way to find replacement lens in a different color, say clear or amber? i know i have the original part number of the red lenses floating around somewhere but i gotta dig it up... and i dont even know if that would help. any input?
