94 e150 strong miss and...
poping noise (maybe back firing in the air box?) and clicking rattleing noise. This only happens when im takeing off from a stop and going up it. But it has a cut out miss while its ideling samething happens on the freeway when im driving it has that strong cut out miss. I have the 4.9 motor with 257k miles. I use this van twice a week I probably put close to a 100 miles a day I carry some weight in it. But soon theres gonna be days where I have to drive it an hour away one way and I wanna make sure this isnt gonna go out on me and leave me stranded. I love the 4.9 motors they run forever as you can see 257k miles. strong motor for the weight I carry in it. Anyway so I bought this van with this problem and with a bad steering gear box. I cant figure out whats causeing my van to do this. All the tune up parts on my van look new but I could be wrong i may check the plugs and wires this weekend. So anyway this morning when I had it I went to seven eleven and left it running in the parking lot grabbed me and ice coffee I came out and as I was leaveing i noticed the abs light was on and the radio was out speedo wasnt working the mileage wasnt showing and the van was running perfect with out the strong miss. So once I got to the place where I load my van i parked it and shut it off for a few seconds started it back up and everything on the dash started working and the miss came back. Has anyone had this problem? I read this thread https://www.fordforum.com/forum/newt...newthread&f=18 and im thinking it maybe the pcm. I know I started a thread for this but I couldnt find it on here. Sorry for the long typing but I want to get my van running normal again and I was suprised for it to pass smog running like this. Oh yes and I do hear and air leak on the drivers side of the engine and it seems to go with the miss. Thanks for reading my post.

There are at least two things that I would start looking for.
If you were able to get hold of a piece of hose, maybe garden hose, and with one end close to your ear start hunting around with the other end of the hose to see where the air leak/hissing sound is loudest. There is a good possibility the engine has a good sized vacuum leak. I believe for starters the brake booster vacuum line is in the area you described.
The second thing I would suggest you loosen and retighten all the ground connections you can find. There are quite a few as I recall.
Something like this can take a bit of hunting and checking .
If you can have the computer read for any possible codes stored that might provide some direction.

thanks for the reply. i beleive the air leak is in front of the engine on the driverside but i will check the the booster hose. thanks alot this helps. i can use a jumper wire i gotta find out to do that for the check engine light.
There is a neat little tool that you can purchase for under $15.00 that will work to help get the codes on your computer. I have to go dig the manf and #. Will post it for you. It's a great timesaver. Works on Ford OBD I systems.
The tool is made by Thexton, phone # 800-328-6277 part #443. If you pull up www.Thexton.com you can see it.

The first code that I see is a 111 which is a system pass. All those other codes could have been from previous things done or possible problems.
There are three sets of codes you should be trying to obtain, they are;
KOEO (key on engine off) then continuous codes stored in memory then KOER(key on engine running). My suggestion would be to disconnect one of the battery cables and start from scratch. When you reconnect the battery and go to get the KOEO codes and you get a 111 that means there are no present faults detected before you start the engine. There is a dynamic test you can do and the little tool I suggested will explain how to do it. By the way when you do the dynamic test you need to run the engine to heat the o2 sensors etc. move the steering wheel 1/2 turn in each direction , tap the brake pedal, and push the trans OD button on and off. The test is run automatically by the ECM and works very well. Your vehicle appears to be in exceptional condition.
Also to get the correct code explanation should have engine size too.

thanks for the reply i will disconnect the battery for an hour. when i had got the van i bought it for a salvage yard and it had no battery so they slapped one in when i got there so i can see how it runs so i dont see why it would store codes still. well im hopeing theres no codes for my trans that would suck. anyway i will get back tomorrow. thanks again.
heres an update heres a video of the miss not sure if you can hear it
