Default adding cruise control-E150

I have a super-nice 2001 E 150 with the 4.2 V6 engine. I would like to add cruise control, but am afraid of the aftermarket units where you install a servo mechanism, and control stalk onto the column. Is it possible to install a new computer and steering wheel with the controls already installed, as if it came from the factory that way? Has anybody out there done this already?

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks.

you shouldn't have to install a new computer the controls should have already been installed in it's programming therefore allowing you to swap steering wheels and adding the equipment to the engine. it might be that you may have to swap out the whole steering column to gain the wiring harness.

I'm sorry I forgot to welcome you to sight and that hope you are successful in adding cruise to your van.

You could check with your local Ford parts guy if he/she has been around for a while. Ford used to offer an aftermarket CRUISE CONTROL for its vehicles which consisted of an OEM "Plug-n-Play" steering wheel with the cruise buttons. Not sure what else came with the cruise kit or when they actually stopped offering it. But it may help you with your project.
