When I got my van it didn't have any brake fluid, I just got the engine running and moved on to the brakes. I put in brake fluid and pressed the brake trying to circulate the fluid but none of the fluid went into the brake lines. Can anyone give any suggestions to what the problem is? Thanks.

 

You need to bench bleed the master, better just crack the brake line at the master and allow the fuild to start leaking out. You should remove the cover for this and close the line once it has leak a little. Then bleed the master by appling pressure on padle and breaking the line, retighten before releasing the padle. Then repeat at all four wheels stating at farthest one (from the master). good luck

 

Yeppers an as you bleed the wheels out , make sure keep adding fluid to the Master Cyl . or you will just keep pumping air in the system , -- You said you were outta fluid ??? , means you got a leak somewhere ???? not good , maybe after you get brakes you might be able to find out where the leak is , how long did the VAN sit , how old is it ?

 

yea, you know maybe time for some new rear wheel cylinders.

 

Thanks for the help on the brakes I've got them fixed and there doesn't seem to be any leaks. By the way it's a 78 e-150. As for how long it set I have no idea and neither did the guy I bought it from. Thanks.

 

ok thats great to hear ,,, one thing however if the master cyl cover was on , the brake fluid had to go somewhere it dont evaporate,, sometimes you will get a small amout of seepage out past the back of the Master, I suppose over time it could go dry . I've worked on vechiles that have sat for as long as 7 yrs an still had brake fluid.
