Default Can I replace E4OD with 4R100?

I've owned a 1994 Ford E150 Econoline (conversion van) since it was new. It currently has 152k miles. Although the E4OD tramsmission is still performing well, I know it is only a matter of time before it fails.

I've read the following about Ford's 4R100 trans: "The E4OD was updated in 1998. Ford renamed it the 4R100 in keeping with new naming standards. It was largely the same as the E40D, but with some reinforcements to address reliability concerns."

I have the opportunity to obtain a used 4R100 trans. When the E4OD unit eventually fails, would I be able to replace it with a 4R100? Would this create any problems with the electronics? Would I have to replace anything else (e.g. transmission harness) along with the trans? Thanks very much!
