Default E-150 A/C blows cold, but only out of the front de-frost vents!

Hey all. So the air won’t come out of any other vents, no response from the switch. Any ideas?

Model is 2001 E-150 passenger van. Rear a/c is also messed up - it blows but only hot air.

You might start with checking the vacuum lines for a leak or possibly came off.
Start in the engine compartment.

Would the A/C still blow cold if there was a leak in the system?

Some controls were electrically controlled and some were vacuum controlled.
With the vacuum controlled systems when vacuum was lost due to a leak the system would automatically go to defrost mode (default).
If you are not sure where to look the vacuum is made available from usually a hose connection starting at the intake manifold then changes to small plastic tubing and is routed to various pieces among which is one line that goes into the passenger compartment to control heater & air conditioning controls. Sometimes a plastic tubing will come off it's connection and sometimes the tubing due to heat or age will crack and develop a leak. Often if you are near the engine compartment when someone shuts off the engine you can hear the vacuum leaking down until the reservoir is empty. Many times you can see the plastic line dangling if it broke or came off.

The A/C system can function normally, but the cold air is not directed to the proper place.
