Default Finally a van

First post here. I wanted a van when I was an impressionable youth back in the mid 70s. Finally bought a 2001 E150. Really liking it, but has a few issues. Had to come to a quick stop today from 5mph. Engine stalled, restarted but now idles rough and is down on power. Thinking it's something stupid. Code P0174 displays. Any input will be appreciated!

Hey bud. Congrats! I just bought my first van a few days ago as well. That code sates that the engine is running lean and the air/fuel mixture is more air than normal. Not sure what to check for regarding this specific engine, but in general you want to follow all the vacuum lines to inspect for damage and see if any are disconnected. Also, follow the intake to the throttle body and intake manifold and see if anything is loose or cracked that is introducing air into the system. An easy way to find a leak would be to take a can of brake cleaner or carb cleaner and spray it around the intake or vacuum lines. If the engine reacts (as in hearing a change in idle speed) you can narrow down your search to that area. Use this at your own discretion, but its always helped me find leaks. Best of luck to ya man.

Thanks for the stone-age diagnostic tip. That makes sense that something was jerked loose. Definitely a great way to eliminate a vacuum leak. My old 1968 Cortina would unplug it's own coil wire if I took off too fast from a stop.

Armed with a can of carb spray, I found that the throttle body air intake had come partially off. Thanks for reminding me of the old trick.
