Default Firing order problems 351

I have a 1993 one ton club wagon van with 351 motor. I have had engine replaced a few years ago. It has been running a little rough and I new it was due for new plugs and such.

So I changed plugs, plug wires, and dist cap and rotor cap.

Now it won't start. I have checked and triple checked firing order of 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 and verified that rotor rotates counter clockwise.

I am using the #1 marker on distibutor to find #1 position or rotor.

Is there another way to verify the correct #1 positon on rotor?

Thank you.

Very frustrating.

assuming that the distributor was in right when you started it should start.
however, you should pull the number one cylinder spark plug out, put your finger over the spark plug hole and have someone tap, not crank, the engine over until you can feel compression on your finger. you will then have to line up the timing mark to top dead center.
pull the distributor cap off and see where the rotor is pointing, it should be pointing to the #1 mark on the dist cap if the distributor was installed right. if not just work the firing order ccw from where the rotor is pointing.. other wise you will have to remove the distributor and install it the right way.

Another thing you can do first is to move the number one spark plug wire to the terminal directly across from where it is and work the firing order from there, there is a good chance that the distributor was put in 180 degrees out. which would make the #6 terminal the #1 term.

Thank you for your response. We did do that compression check and it seemed to point to the first position counter clockwise of #1 on distributor cap. Tried 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order... no luck.

I may try to do 180 degree from original #1 and see if that works.

Ugh!
