Hi all! My transmission has sprung a leak and I’m hoping y’all might help me understand the issue.
I was towing my 7000 pound travel trailer over a moderate mountain pass. I wasn’t pushing it hard at all. At some point my OD off light began flashing. The transmission seemed to be running fine. It did shift moderately hard maybe once, but I’ve had that happen before while towing on a hill.
once I got to my camp spot I inspected underneath and there is definitely a leak and fluid is low. There is a rubber seal that is clearly torn/blown.
1. based on the pictures can you tell me exactly what is blown?
2. What am looking at in terms of a fix?
3. is it possible to run like this as long as I keep fluid in it? I’m on a road trip and have a lot 971 miles to go to my destination and another 1200ish to get back.
4. would a transmission stop leak help with this issue until I can get the leak fixed by a mechanic?
it is a 1996 Ford E350 7.3l power stroke diesel. The transmission was rebuilt about 60k miles ago. Since the rebuild I’ve driven it a lot towing a trailer, most of that time a lighter trailer that was about 5,200lbs.
